I’ve started painting a new 20-panel piece as a part of my UNDERNEATH Series. I’m projecting a photograph onto the canvases and painting through the image. I’ve not used this technique before for large scale paintings, but I’m really enjoying it. Of course, it works best at night in the dark.
The image being projected was taken with a GoPro camera in waterproof casing under spring sea ice at Ship Island (Greenspond) on a bitterly cold day. The image itself is outstanding, with ice crystals illuminated from above, and dark kelp attached to the rocks below. Duke and I have been capturing images like this for about a year now, and I have some real beauties to draw inspiration from.
