Let me introduce myself: I'm Janet Davis, an artist and entrepreneur living and working on the North side of Bonavista Bay, on the island of Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. There are many challenges to running a business here in my small rural hometown, and there are many wonderful benefits too. This blog is where I share some of those challenges and triumphs, and share what it's like to live in this part of the world.

I am back in the studio a day early after taking some time off for Thanksgiving weekend. I had a lovely 2 days of doing yard-work and a big feed of turkey with our Greenspond friends. I’m thankful for all I have.
This week in the studio, I’m packaging up a couple of orders that have been drying on the rack all weekend, putting together a display of Christmas themed items, and tidying up after a mat hooking workshop that went ahead on Saturday. I’ll be here all week working on new projects, editioning The View from Shallop Cove, and hoping to see lots of visitors!
Norton’s Cove Studio is open: 10-6 Wednesday to Sunday!
Save the Date:
Norton’s Cove Studio’s Annual Christmas Party & Sale happens on Friday, December 2nd, starting at 7pm!
All sorts of treats to start the festive season: prizes, music, food & drink, and 25% off everything in the shop!
This week and next, I am taking a little time off to rejuvenate my creative and entrepreneurial sensibilities. I have been enjoying some time at home, doing some long overdue maintenance and falling in love with a new paint colour on our foyer walls.
But today, I’m in the studio and office, taking care of some business:
Working on orders: packaging dry cards and minis, and printing more!
Moving Café Giftshop stock to the studio’s shelves and updating inventory
Reinstalling my big wall of artwork: I’ve sold a few pieces (thank you thank you!) and need to rearrange it all again, including artwork from the Café’s walls
Catching up on paperwork
Hoping to see a few visitors!
Norton’s Cove Studio is open: The Studio is open by chance or appointment this week! Please call/text me at 536-8166 to make an appointment. Today and tomorrow, I’ll be here from around 10-6.
Stop in to see how Norton’s Cove Mini-Prints are made today, and the next few days! I’m slowly getting through my latest #printapalooza print list while working on another couple of projects unrelated to my artistic career. When the Café closes up for the season tomorrow night, I’ll be able to put far more focus on artwork and building up stock to be ready for the last quarter of the year.
Norton’s Cove Studio is open: (I’ll be taking a little holiday time soon, so please, if you’re travelling from afar, check in with me and let me know what day you’ll be visiting to avoid disappointment!)
I am printing new cards, minis, and bookmarks this week, for our own shop shelves as well as some orders coming in (including Christmas Cards!), while listening to the BBC coverage of the Queen’s death. What a historic moment we are living through this week! The Queen who I pledged my allegiance to as a Girl Guide is gone, and a new King takes her place. Only senior citizens remember when the last King died, and have known any other monarch than Elizabeth II. What an incredible woman she was to dedicate her entire life to royal duty and the people of her realm. I imagine the conversations between her and all the heads of government around the world would be amazing to hear.
Stop in to see how Norton’s Cove Cards are made today, and the next few days, and grab your tickets for David Guy Live @ Norton’s Cove on Saturday night too!
I am colouring & packaging new cards, minis, and bookmarks this week, for our own shop shelves as well as some orders coming in (including Christmas Cards!)
The Mystery of the Missing Printing Plate Update: No sign of the saltbox printing plate anywhere! When my favourite cousin asked if I thought someone may have stolen it, I said, “don’t be rediculas”; but right now, I’m thinking it’s about the only explanation! Maybe someone put it in their pocket by accident? I know I’ve come home from the Café with a napkin in my purse before. I can’t be the only oblivious weirdo out there, can I? Anyway, the search continues! And in the meantime, I have to discontinue that image in the online shop, as I can no longer take orders for that particular design. I guess I’ll be making a new saltbox image!
We are printing and packaging new cards, minis, and bookmarks this week, for our own shop shelves as well as some orders coming in (including Christmas Cards!) and as this is Madison’s last week here at Norton’s Cove Studio, we’re trying to fit a lot of work into the last few days! If you’re thinking of stopping in for a visit, it’s a great time to see how these lino-cut relief prints are made!
