Studio & Shop Update

Since my return from my most successful Christmas Craft Fair ever, I have been getting my beautiful shop tidied up, getting new framed pieces up on the wall, and gathering information for a new business project that I’m working on (more on that later). I’m getting the shop dressed up for Christmas (my favourite time of the year), and then it’ll be time to get at more printing (Christmas cards are running low) and back to making paintings.

My mom-in-law gave me a nutcracker from a downsizing move, and he has found a job at Norton’s Cove Studio this Christmas shopping season as a toque model.

I’d love for you to visit the studio, and I’m offering free coffee while you shop handmade. Hate the hustle and bustle of shopping in the big stores? Then stop in for a calm, relaxing shopping experience with a lattĂ© macchiato to warm your hands and the knowledge that you are supporting local, handmade, and independent! Every little purchase makes a big difference to small shops like mine. And of course, if you can’t get here in person, the online shop is open 24-7. If you have any questions, please just send me a note or give me a call.

Lots of products in the shop from the Dark Tickle, also Rocks & Roots Co., Kate Fudge Art, cook-books, Velvet Snow jewellery, Foggy Island Candles, make for great stocking stuffers and gifts.

Studio Update

I am still working away at more smudge herring paintings, and will have a number of them ready to go with frames by Sunday. I love painting them!

Smudge Herring No. 62 in progress

I’ve been attending the Craft Council of NL’s Christmas Craft Fair as a vendor most years since 2002. But long before Norton’s Cove Studio was born, I actually had a job with the Craft Council (or the NLCDA as it was known back then) as an assistant to the Craft Fair Director. The job lasted just a few weeks, and had me putting up thousands of posters all over St. John’s, helping to set up the venue- taping out booth sizes on the concrete floor of Memorial Stadium, lugging things about, helping craftspeople set up their booths, and manning the information/credit card booth. One of the best things about the Craft Fair is the people that I’ve met there over the past thirty years. And it’s the main reason Duke and I still bother to load up the truck with whatever we need and go to town for a few nights to sell our fine art pieces in an arena!

This is the reason I’ve been painting up a storm lately- I want to have plenty of new paintings to bring to the Craft Council’s Christmas Craft Fair.

Tonight will be the 5th Friday night in a row that the studio has been open late, and I had hoped to get a few visitors in the door by offering up some special stuff- but in four weeks, four people in total have walked through the doors. I may be the daughter of Captain Oblivious, but I can take a hint. So there won’t be anything special (or at least nothing more special than usual) going on here on Friday nights. Just the regular charm of an 1890 general store with the aromas of freshly pulled espresso and oil paint. I’ll enjoy it by myself and stop worrying about trying to convince everyone else to love it too.

Norton’s Cove Studio Hours of Operation:

These hours will change with the beginning of November. I had planned to stay with my current hours until Christmas at least, but the weather has prevented me from having much time to do the things I want to do on my days off, and as a business owner, I have to take the few perks I do have, like making my own schedule, to make my life more enjoyable. So beginning on November 1st, the studio will be open by chance or appointment. I’ll still get my 40+ hours in, but I’ll be able to work in the garden on those rare sunny days! Artwork & paperwork can be done in the rain drizzle and fog!

Norton’s Cove CafĂ© is closed for the season, but there is still lots going on at Norton’s Cove…

Come on over to Norton’s Cove Studio to get your cappuccino fix in the off-season. Bring your own mug if you’d like to take your americano or cafĂ© lattĂ© to go- as an effort to cut down on the amount of garbage we produce. You can pick up your favourite jams, sauces, and salts too.

Our Annual Tibb’s Eve Dinner & Dance tickets have started to sell to those who have attended before- make sure you don’t miss your opportunity- get your tickets before they sell out!

We love our tee shirts and and hoodies branded with our Norton’s Cove logo! We have a new product hitting the shelves and online store very soon, in cahoots with Star Creations!
What do you think it will be?

And progress continues to creep along at the Lower Deck. I’ll keep you posted of anything new right here every Wednesday!

This week at Norton’s Cove CafĂ©

Norton’s Cove CafĂ© is closed for the season, but there is still lots going on at Norton’s Cove!

Last week, in order to reach out to my local peeps who use Facebook more than any other type of social media, I have set up a Norton’s Cove Studio & CafĂ© Facebook page. I’ll be cross-posting from this blog, so anyone who follows the page will see links to these posts in their timeline, as well as posts that usually go to Instagram or Twitter only. In order for my business to succeed, I really need the support of my local community.

If you like to use Facebook, I would really appreciate it if you would head on over to Norton’s Cove Studio & CafĂ©’s brand new Facebook page and share it with your friends, especially people local to the GNCA*. (*Greater Norton’s Cove Area!)

And yes, I’ve brought one of the espresso machines to the studio too! All winter is a long time to go without a cappuccino! Stop by anytime for a cappuccino, cafĂ© lattĂ©, or an americano. If you’d like to take your coffee to go, please bring your own mug! #BYOM

This week at Norton’s Cove CafĂ©

Norton’s Cove CafĂ© is closed for the season, but there is still lots going on at Norton’s Cove!

New this week, for all you Norton’s Cove coffee fans, I’ve moved one of our espresso machines to the studio for the off-season! You’ll need to bring your own mug for coffee to go, or you can browse the shop and enjoy the c.1890 aesthetic while you sip. We don’t serve food, just coffee. And don’t be foolish and order something not on the menu! We have three options: americano, cafĂ© lattĂ©, or cappuccino. That’s it. Don’t be asking for a cafĂ© au lait or a decaf low fat pumpkin spiced anything. I’ve been watching Seinfeld again lately, and you just might get a “no soup for you” response!

The Norton’s Cove Studio Coffee Counter is back, better than ever!

We are planning new events for the CafĂ© for this fall and winter, like our Annual Tibb’s Eve Dinner & Dance– and a New Year’s Eve event too. And progress continues to creep along at the Lower Deck. I’ll keep you posted right here every Wednesday!
