1st Studio & Café Update of 2022!

January brings a 40% off sale on Norton's Cove apparel for those who subscribe to the Norton's Cove eNewsletter! Just enter the discount code 2022 in the checkout in the online shop, or remind me in person at Norton's Cove Studio!

I am back to regular hours in the studio, and am putting together a plan of future events at the Café and Lower Deck to be added to our events calendar as we nail down dates and happenings. While I’m doing lots of paperwork today and taking down Christmas decorations here at the studio, enjoy this from a couple of my favourite people: Ian Foster & Nancy Hynes’ Old Christmas Day video (which my brother Trev and sister-in-law Dana just so happens to appear in!)

Norton’s Cove Studio’s winter hours: Please do stop in to browse the shop, to chat about the latest books you’ve read, to apply for a summer job at the studio & café, or to sit around hooking mats! We’d love to see you (with a mask on, of course! )

Dad’s Guitar

Dad’s Guitar Bookmarks: $5.50 each
Available at Norton’s Cove Studio or in the online shop!

This Yamaki guitar hangs in my office, but has been owned by my dad, and all three of my brothers at some time.  It was purchased new in 1980/81 and has been lost in poker games, travelled near and far, and finally came to hang out with me. All four of us kids learned to play guitar on this instrument, and it’s pretty special to me, even though I’m the least talented musician in the family by a loooooong stretch. I love it when my guys pick it up to play when they visit me at work.

Growing up in a family of musicians didn’t rub off on me in that I’m a great musician, but it did teach me to appreciate music; and the difference between someone like me who can strum a few chords, to professionals who can make their guitars talk and send shivers down your spine. What I really love the most about live music, I think, is that when you listen to the same songs later on a CD or a streaming service, I am reminded of the same wonderful feelings that the live show gave me, and I remember the back stories the artist tells between songs. It just makes me fall even deeper for the music in general.

How about you? Did you grow up with a musical family? Do you play any instruments?

Thank Yous

Nancy Hynes & Ian Foster Livex@ Norton’s Cove Café

Thank you to Ian & Nancy for another beautiful performance here at Norton’s Cove, to all of you who bought tickets to support these artists, and to Team Norton’s Cove for their helping hands that make my live music dreams a reality. ♡

At the Café

Hello from gorgeous Norton’s Cove!

This week, much to our disappointment, will be our last week of regular hours at the Café.  Business has dropped off considerably in the past couple of weeks, and it no longer makes financial cents (misspelled for the benefit of Mr. Wiley) to remain open.

We will certainly have events throughout the off-season, so stay tuned  to our website for special happenings!  For now, our last day of regular business, 10am-8pm, will be Saturday, September 21st.

I want to say an enormous THANK YOU to my wonderful staff, to our regular customers, and all visitors from all corners of the earth that we’ve had the pleasure to serve and chat with.  Norton’s Cove is growing, and that is largely due to people like YOU for sharing your good experiences here at Norton’s Cove.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.  I look forward to growing even more next season!

Special thanks this year go to Richard Leach who played piano at the Café every Thursday night since we opened in May. We love you Richard, you’re a star, and you made our Thursday nights shine!

At the Café

Hello from gorgeous Norton’s Cove!

Our hours are 10am to 8pm daily (except Wednesdays) and we recommend that you call for a reservation when times are busy (July & August are busy!) so that we can guarantee you a place to sit!  I don’t like turning people away, but we have had to do that several times.  The number to call to make a reservation is: 709-536-2633.

We’re starting the week with…
French Onion Soup (V, GF*)  $4 cup; $6 bowl
Pork Ball Soup (GF)  $6 cup; $8 bowl

Chrys continues to bake us gorgeous treats; she changes things up each day, so pop in to see what’s new!  Right now, we have: brownies with rum & butter icing, hand pies, chocolate layer cake with caramel buttercream icing & toasted pecans, ginger cookies, s’mores scones, chocolate biscotti, and fudge in addition to our regular dessert menu.

Our young servers are gone back to the city to attend university classes next week, and Chrys and Duke will be helping me to serve you here at the café.  As August comes to a close this week, remember that we still have three more weeks of summer!  And the café will still be open to enjoy until Thanksgiving weekend.

Ourosboros Live @ Norton’s Cove

Last night was magic. A band from St. John’s, Ourosboros, came to stay & play at Norton’s Cove to the delight of all ticket-holders! Amazing upbeat music with some twists to make us laugh while we danced!

These musicians were not only lots of fun to listen to, but fun to hang out with before and after the show. Susan Evoy is a comic genius, as far as I’m concerned!
And we get to do it all again, as the band has agreed to come back for another concert in 2020! Until then, we have their CD to add to the Norton’s Cove playlist.
Did you know that all the singer/songwriters on our Café playlist have performed Live @ Norton’s Cove?
