Let me introduce myself: I'm Janet Davis, an artist and entrepreneur living and working on the North side of Bonavista Bay, on the island of Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. There are many challenges to running a business here in my small rural hometown, and there are many wonderful benefits too. This blog is where I share some of those challenges and triumphs, and share what it's like to live in this part of the world.
The Feast of Saint Valentine is almost sold out! Thank you so much for such a wonderful response! Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! We’ll have a full staff in house to make your evening meal a pleasure, and I will be trying out the new Lower Deck space for the first time- please do come hang with me there for a drink or two in a relaxing atmosphere with your bubble before or after your meal. We’ll be funnelling everyone through the upstairs entry- don’t forget to bring your VaxPass QR code!
I am collecting love songs for the special Valentine’s playlist- what is your favourite love song?
This year, we’re planning a great Feast of Saint Valentine here at Norton’s Cove Café, and you can buy your tickets in the online shop. Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! Now that the Lower Deck is finished, I encourage you to enjoy that space with a drink while you wait for your reservation, or after you’ve finished your meal but don’t want to go home yet!
With current COVID-19 restrictions
~we are limited to 34.5 people (including staff) in the building at a time
~we need to physically distance ourselves from other bubbles by at least 6 feet
~we all need to wear a mask when we are not seated/eating, and
~we need to show that we are vaccinated upon entry
Nothing to it!

Valentine’s Day is less than a month away- which leaves plenty of time to order that special card, and purchase your Feast of Saint Valentine event tickets through our online shop, or in-person (or over the phone) at the Studio.
I’m trying out a new reservation system for this event, where you can pick an available time and date right on the order page. Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! No sweat! We’re used to that!

Another wrench thrown in… back to alert level 4 for the Greater Norton’s Cove area.
I’ve been thinking about what we should do as a business these last couple of days, and have come to the conclusion that we will go ahead with our planned start dates. If we are still in Alert Level 4 next Wednesday (reopening day), then we we will open for take-out only. If you have a reservation for the first week, I’ll be in contact closer to the reservation day to let you know what’s on the go.

Work on the Lower Deck is still progressing, if slowly, and the space will double our usual floorspace when we reopen for in-person dining. I just spent one of my days off painting doors and trims, and I’ll be spending a few of my evenings after work at the studio over there finishing that work. We still have to install bathroom fixtures, a track lighting unit (to illuminate Live @ Norton’s Cove performers), install floor covering on the stairs, remove all the tools (oh dear, we need another shed!), and furnish the space.

So I didn’t make my self-imposed deadline. I still have three panels that need more layers- I’m currently waiting for them to dry so I can add on top without the colours mixing. And I have one panel that I loathe and I will rework.
But I still want to start Printapalooza on Wednesday, and I want to take Monday and Tuesday off to do some garden work and reading. I also start a little business program on Wednesday evening. And I have a bit of work to do getting the Lower Deck ready to open. These will have to get finished when I get time in the evenings. Soon!
I am on a self-imposed schedule to get these illustrations completed before #printapalooza is set to start again on May 19th. And I’ve been keeping to a regular work schedule for the first time after 19 years in business, taking two days off each week. So that means that I have 3 days left to get this project complete or suffer the consequences: personal shame and a rather nasty inner monologue.
You might see my lights on and my open sign up later than usual for the next couple of days! Please do stop in for a visit while I’m painting.
Norton’s Cove Studio is now open
