Happy Saint Patrick’s Day ☘

Let me introduce myself: I'm Janet Davis, an artist and entrepreneur living and working on the North side of Bonavista Bay, on the island of Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. There are many challenges to running a business here in my small rural hometown, and there are many wonderful benefits too. This blog is where I share some of those challenges and triumphs, and share what it's like to live in this part of the world.
Norton’s Cove is ready for Valentine’s Day with new cards at the studio, and a lovely menu for supper at the Café. I’m still taking reservations for supper, and you can drop by the studio to pick up a mussel heart card anytime!
It’s easy to think Valentine’s Day a waste of time for those of us who show our undying love for our spouses each day of the year. But it’s also a day when we can support local businesses and have a bit of fun too. Having someone go out of their way to make their sweetheart feel special never gets old, really. At least, I can speak for myself: I’m not tired of it yet! 💖
Top of the morning to you! What a beautiful morning it is here at the studio, warm and sunny.
Once I’ve printed enough cards, minis, and bookmarks to fill up my drying rack, I move on to the window screens (which belong to the café), stacked up on a table in my office. I keep them apart with little pieces of wood, giving space to dry.
While the drying rack is designed for printmakers, the window screens are actually more versatile in some ways- I don’t have to wait for the prints on the top layers to dry before I remove the prints from the bottom layers. They can be shifted around, and are larger, thus fitting more prints at a time.
I finished the silver and gold prints yesterday, and moved on to the red-blue rainbow roll. Hopefully that will be finished today and I can move on to the next colour after my shift at the café this afternoon. As always, I’d love to have you drop in to see some printmaking in action.
