Let me introduce myself: I'm Janet Davis, an artist and entrepreneur living and working on the North side of Bonavista Bay, on the island of Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. There are many challenges to running a business here in a small rural community, and there are many wonderful benefits too. This blog is where I share some of those challenges and triumphs, and share what it's like to live in this part of the world.
The Feast of Saint Valentine is almost sold out! Thank you so much for such a wonderful response! Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! We’ll have a full staff in house to make your evening meal a pleasure, and I will be trying out the new Lower Deck space for the first time- please do come hang with me there for a drink or two in a relaxing atmosphere with your bubble before or after your meal. We’ll be funnelling everyone through the upstairs entry- don’t forget to bring your VaxPass QR code!
I am collecting love songs for the special Valentine’s playlist- what is your favourite love song?
This year, we’re planning a great Feast of Saint Valentine here at Norton’s Cove Café, and you can buy your tickets in the online shop. Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! Now that the Lower Deck is finished, I encourage you to enjoy that space with a drink while you wait for your reservation, or after you’ve finished your meal but don’t want to go home yet!
With current COVID-19 restrictions
~we are limited to 34.5 people (including staff) in the building at a time
~we need to physically distance ourselves from other bubbles by at least 6 feet
~we all need to wear a mask when we are not seated/eating, and
~we need to show that we are vaccinated upon entry
Nothing to it!

Valentine’s Day is less than a month away- which leaves plenty of time to order that special card, and purchase your Feast of Saint Valentine event tickets through our online shop, or in-person (or over the phone) at the Studio.
I’m trying out a new reservation system for this event, where you can pick an available time and date right on the order page. Click HERE to read the menu and order your event tickets! No sweat! We’re used to that!

You can contact me directly to make a reservation. We’ll be offering a shortened menu on Saturday, and our usual Brunch menu on Sunday.

This week at the Café, I am happy to announce that I can reopen the Café Giftshop for private shopping by appointment, as our Government of NL COVID-19 Alert Level has been moved down to just 3 because we’ve been behaving ourselves! It’s looking good for spring! See you soon!

And I’ve been adding products to the online store, so there’s more to choose from! Cookbooks are now available online, and you can find products from Saltwater Spirit, the Dark Tickle Company, and the Newfoundland Salt Company and more in the Norton’s Cove Café Collection.
Lockdown continues at Norton’s Cove, with the province at the highest level in the COVID-19 Alert Level System. I am working away as usual at the studio & café, as I always do during the winter months. In January, while we were open to the public, I had 6 visitors in store- so no great loss for me by not having to shovel the front steps! I am thankful every day for how lucky I am to be able to continue on with life as usual while others are really struggling with loneliness and fear of contracting the awful disease. I feel very privileged.
Did you know that many of the Café Gift-shop’s products are available through our online shop? During this lockdown period, and always, you can pick up your jams and relish and thump mats at the studio- contactless- or have them delivered to you via Canada Post.
